Every July the Hancock Community Coalition and older HYPE members plan and host HYPE Leadership Day, created to help rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders own the leader within themselves.
HYPE Leadership Days were held July 6th and 21st, 2021 at St. Clare Catholic Church in Waveland. The Hancock County Coalition and older HYPE members come together to plan HYPE Leadership Day to help middle school students become great young leaders. HYPE's vision is to lead students into becoming young leaders in our community looking to make a difference. During HYPE Leadership Day students come together in group activities and individual activities that surround the four pillars of HYPE. These four pillars include commitment, communication, passion, and courage. Along with the four pillars of HYPE students are taught prevention, and leadership skills to steer their way through middle school. The activities students participated in allowed them to get to know each of their peers and discover their personal impression of Hancock County. Each group activity was overseen by an older peer that guided each student throughout their activities. Students also discovered that by having an active role as a HYPE member they were able to empower themselves and others.
